Photography: The Bird & The Bear
I can’t even begin to explain the feeling whenever I heard the music start to play…my bridal party had left the bridal suite to line up on the side of where they would soon enter, so I was left alone in the bridal suite, pacing back and forth as “I Get to Love You” by RUELLE played. I thought I had exhausted that song enough pre-wedding day so that it wouldn’t make me emotional, but there I was alone in the bridal suite with eyes welling up. I knew this moment would come, but I don’t think I could’ve ever been prepared enough. In that moment, with the most beautiful song echoing into the bridal suite from outside where all of my family and friends waited for me to enter into, I realized that it was really happening. I found a man who not only loves me, but I found a man who chose me to love for the rest of eternity. I didn’t know how he was feeling before seeing me walk down the aisle until after the ceremony, but turns out the cool and collected man I have known for the past 5 years was anything but cool and collected! Haha! I don’t think I’ve ever seen him nervous, so all the pictures of him rubbing his sweaty palms together are hilarious to me! In our wedding video, you can even see him cracking his neck and telling my pastor “I’m going to throw up” as the processional song comes to an end! He wasn’t too excited about me nixing the idea of traditional “repeat after me” vows, so that may have had something to do with it!
“Marry Me” by Train came over the speakers, and I knew that was my cue. I locked arms with my dad as we began our final walk before giving his little girl away. I made it only a few steps before I started crying. I wish I would’ve remembered that there was a photographer there capturing my every move, but alas, the only pictures of me walking down the aisle are a whole lot of ugly cries. Lol! My pastor started the ceremony by praying over our marriage we were about to enter into…it’s one of my favorite photos from our ceremony!
It was really important to me that we wrote our own vows. I feel like it just makes them so much more special. I got hardbound vow books, so they will be something we will have forever.
I have prayed for this day since we first met in Orange, Texas. You’ve my best friend, my lover, and most importantly, my better half. There is no one I would rather have by my side to tackle all of life’s challenges with. You have shown me so many things in just a few short years. You are the perfect one the Lord created for me. I promise to love and care for you, and I will strive in every way to be worthy of your love. I promise I will always be honest, kind, patient, and forgiving. I promise to tell you I love you every night before we go to bed and every morning before I leave for work. When we start a family, I promise to be the best father I can be, because I know you will be the best mother.
From the moment we met on the Texas state line, I knew my life had just completely changed. Within five minutes of meeting you, I knew you were something special. You had the ability to make me laugh when I wanted to cry, and made any place that I was with you feel like home. We met by chance, fell in love by fate, and fought for each other by choice. I promise to be your best friend, confidant, biggest cheerleader, and to never stop fighting for you. I promise to choose you today, tomorrow, and every day for the rest of our lives no matter what struggles may come our way. I promise to never give up on you, and I promise to never give up on our love. Life is unpredictable and uncertain, but the one thing I am certain of is that I found the man in you that I’ve been dreaming of since I was a little girl. The man who will be my teammate as we raise our perfect little children together. And the man who makes me feel like the most beautiful woman in the world every day. Most people search a lifetime for what I’ve found in you. I prayed for you before I even knew your name, and in this moment, I can truly say that God answers prayers.
I cried through my entire vows. I think I literally got through maybe half a sentence before I started crying…you’ll totally understand what I mean when you see our video! It was rough, haha! Our whole ceremony was so special though. It’s something I will cherish forever. We lit a unity candle after promising each other forever. My mom and his mom/stepdad lit each of our candlesticks when they walked down the aisle to use to light our unity candle. I loved having them be a part of our unity candle lighting as Dylan and I became one…
After Justin pronounced us man and wife, we had “Thank God I Got Her” by Jonny Diaz play as everyone cheered and the bridal party exited the ceremony (I believe 1:53 was where we had it begin playing). If you listen to the whole song, it was just perfect! When my mom heard it for the first time, she was like, “Did he write this song about you?!” It really is me to a T! We headed back to the bridal suite with the rest of our bridal party to regroup before taking photos while guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and drinks at cocktail hour. We passed around Dylan’s flask and had a celebratory drink right when we got to the bridal suite…it’s one of my favorite pictures! Haha! There’s no photo that could capture “me” more than drinking whiskey out of a flask in my wedding dress right after saying “I do”…classy on the outside, but still wild at heart! Lol!
