I’ve gotten a ton of requests for travel recommendations from those planning to go to Cozumel soon, so I wanted to do a full resort review on the resort we stayed at for our honeymoon, El Cozumeleño Beach Resort in Cozumel, Mexico! The resort was so beautiful, and we had the best time! It was an all-inclusive resort also, so we ate and drank probably a little too much! Haha! The photo above was actually taken from our bedroom balcony…y’all…let me tell ya, waking up to views like this never gets old!

El Cozumeleño is located right off the beach, so you can literally just walk out to paradise from your bedroom door! It’s only about a $5 taxi ride from downtown where you can do tons of shopping. There are also quite a few restaurants downtown if you’re looking to go out rather than eating in (although we rarely did this since the resort is all-inclusive!). The ferry is also nearby, so if you’re looking to go to Playa Del Carmen for the day (which I totally recommend!), that’s not too far either!
Life-size chess board! I’ve always wanted to see one of these in person! Haha!
Putt putt golf at the resort!
The resort had so much to do! The grounds were actually way bigger than I expected. It was split into two sides with the informal dining restaurant separating the two. On the left side they have a huge resort style pool with a swim up bar, two covered beach-side sets of hammocks to lounge in while you take in the view, a hot tub, a sand volleyball court, a stage where they set up a movie to play each night, arcade and game room, and life-size chess. They also have a child care center available! On the other side of the informal dining restaurant, there is putt putt golf, a second pool, and tons of beach chairs/umbrellas for lounging! Every corner of the grounds was so beautiful and just gets even more beautiful as the sun starts to set over the ocean!
Newer addition to El Cozumeleño…we stayed on the older side, however!
The drinks were flowing all day! So many mojitos for this gal!

The food was overall really good! They have room service for all rooms (with the exception of the garden rooms), so we definitely took advantage of that quite a few times after returning from drinking and shopping downtown! They also have an informal dining area that has a gorgeous view of the beach at El Cozumeleño. The first night we were there, they had an a la carte dinner menu…it was SO delicious! However, there were two nights that were buffet style versus a la carte in the informal dining restaurant. Dylan and I aren’t huge buffet people, and of course we didn’t realize it would be buffet style that night, so we didn’t make reservations at the formal dining restaurant. There was some sort of church youth group type of thing that came with probably 300 kiddos, and to my understanding, they switch the informal dining from a la carte to buffet style any time there are 500+ people staying at the resort. It wasn’t a huge deal at the end of the day, but buffet food is just kind of bleh. After they left though, it switched back to a la carte – everything we had a la carte was so yummy! Our last night, we ended up making reservations at the formal dining restaurant. I am actually a little bummed we hadn’t done that every night! It was so much fun getting dressed up and the food was AMAZING! You got to choose a starter, entree, and dessert…or if you’re like Dylan, two entrees! Lol! He couldn’t decide – everything looked so good! The only drawback about the formal dining is that you have to make reservations the day of and can’t make them after 4, so if you are gone on an excursion before sunrise and get back late, you will be S.O.L! It’s definitely worth getting a reservation though if you’re able to! And then of course they have a menu they offer poolside full of quesadillas, pizzas, etc that were also so delicious!
We had actually originally gotten a room on the 6th floor, which was just fine, but they upgraded us to the 9th floor the second day to an even bigger room! The decor is your typical beach-house style decor with a couch and small table as well. The rooms at El Cozumeleño weren’t anything extravagant (but I didn’t expect them to be – the resort is EXTREMELY budget-friendly). They are honestly a little outdated and could use some renovations, but nothing horrible! I do want to mention that the water pressure for the shower was really low. That may seem like a weird thing to nit-pick, but when you have hair as long and thick as I do, low water pressure is a bit of a nightmare! Haha! Luckily, I only wash my hair once a week and dry-shampoo the majority of the time anyways, so I made it work. The views from the room were what really blew me away though! After all, you don’t vacation to stay inside the room all day! There was a balcony that you could sit on and enjoy the ocean view while the sun rose and set…it was so gorgeous! I definitely recommend getting a room on the 9th floor. You could see the whole resort, and it was so pretty getting to look out and see so much of Cozumel from your bedroom! They also brought a plate of chocolate covered strawberries to our room congratulating us on our marriage when we got there, which I thought was really sweet! Our bedroom balcony…the view was so gorgeous!

Although there were a few imperfections, the value for what you pay is SO GOOD! You can look at pricing for different times here, which always fluctuates. They also run specials on travel sites like Expedia, Book.it, and others, so monitor those and jump when a discount code comes around! I know when we were booking though, El Cozumeleño was around $120/night for an ocean view room with the special they were running. When you factor in the room stay itself, drinks ALL day (included), and 3 or more meals per person + poolside pizza/quesadillas/burgers/etc. that you want to order + room service (also all included), you really aren’t paying much at all. And if you eat and drink as much as Dylan and I do, the resort probably lost money on us…haha! But seriously, it doesn’t get much better than all inclusive for that inexpensive of a stay! It’s such a good deal, so any imperfections within the resort are really easy to overlook!
I definitely recommend El Cozumeleño if you’re looking for resorts while vacationing in Cozumel! The staff was absolutely AMAZING! The short-haired lady (totally forgot her name! oops!) that was always working the front desk in the mornings was so sweet and always had the biggest smile on her face! And the bartenders poolside were always waiting on us hand and foot making sure we had a drink in our hand and were having a great time! Russell and Gabriel were our favorite bartenders during our stay! They were hilarious, and we had so much fun joking around with them! We saw Gabriel right before we left, and he was so sad we were leaving. We were like, “We will be back soon!” And he responded, “Oh okay! Like next week?!” Haha! I already miss my favorite Mexico friends! We had the best time in Cozumel it was the perfect start to our married lives together.
